An issue has been identified with Aderyn's commercial and partner search results whereby some species have been appearing in incorrect status categories. The issue has affected searches undertaken since 26 February 2026. We are working on correcting this error, but the fix is not expected to be in place until 17th March. You may wish to wait to run (or re-run recent) searches until after that date.

Have you ever wondered how widespread a species is across Wales. This page allows you to select a species or an entire taxon group and display a 10km distribution map of that species or group, based on data held by LERC Wales. You can then select a 10km square and see a 1km distribution map (except for sensitive species).

Use one of the options below to select the species or group you are interested in.

Maps and data are not to be used for any commercial purposes.

Species - Wildcard

If you find it hard to find the species you are looking for, or are unsure what taxon group a species is within, click the search button here to search the entire taxon dictionary.

Species - Drilldown

Select the super group and taxon group first to help narrow the search, then enter the first few characters of the species you require. The number of records we hold for a species is shown after the species name. Finally, select the species from the drop down and click the green go arrow. Some super groups only have a single taxon group within them. If so, this will be automatically selected for you.

Taxon Group

Select the super group required first. Then, select the taxon group you require.
